Information for the island
Psara located in North Aegean Sea, just a little west of the northwestern end of the island of Chios. Psara is a dry and barren island with wild landscapes, especially on the east side.
Psara is a historic island after completely destroyed by the Ottomans during the Greek Revolution. The Black Ridge, famous thanks to Dionysios Solomos, is the small peninsula southwest which connects the village with the castle. Therein lies the castle and the churches of St. John the Baptist and St. Anne.
Psara have only a single village which is amphitheater built around the port. The houses are white and floored with tile, and among them is the house of Constantine Kanaris. In the central square there is the Heroes Garden, a memorial which are engraved the names of all the victims of the revelution.
Psara are ideal for quiet and relaxing holidays. Thereis not much Nightlife in Psara and the only unique bar of the island lie in the settlement.
Psara staged every year a festival for the celebration of the Virgin Mary in a monastery. The whole island entertained all night with homemade food and wine with the accompaniment of traditional music and dance.
